The tragic shooting of a 17-year-old girl in Long Beach, California, has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving a family shattered and authorities determined to bring the perpetrator to justice. The chilling case highlights the crucial role of surveillance footage in modern criminal investigations.
Grainy Footage, Crucial Clues: Surveillance Video Places Suspect Near Crime Scene
On the evening of March 26, 2024, Briana Stto was walking home, speaking to her mother on the phone. Just feet from her doorstep, tragedy struck. Gunshots rang out at approximately 8:30 p.m., and Brianna was found fatally wounded near the intersection of 11th Street and Lewis Avenue.
Days later, the Long Beach Police Department released a critical piece of evidence: surveillance footage capturing a lone figure walking in the vicinity moments before the shooting. The individual, dressed in dark clothing with a hood obscuring their face, was recorded by multiple cameras in the neighborhood around 8:20 p.m., placing them in close proximity to the crime scene shortly before Brianna’s death.

“We also have to believe that the suspect ran southbound immediately following the murder and began removing garments,” stated Long Beach County Police Chief Wally Habish, highlighting the significance of the footage in establishing a timeline and potential escape route.
DNA, Cellular Data, and a Pattern of Violence: Building a Case Against the Suspect
Following the release of the surveillance footage, the investigation intensified. A break came in the form of investigative leads pointing towards 34-year-old Long Beach resident, Troy Lamar Fox.
Fox, already in custody at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on an unrelated weapons violation, quickly became the prime suspect in Brianna’s murder.
“Investigative leads, including DNA, video, and cellular phone evidence, were instrumental in identifying and apprehending Mr. Fox,” revealed a police spokesperson, shedding light on the multifaceted nature of the investigation.
According to forensic expert Alina Burrows, the DNA evidence could be linked to several possibilities.
“Wearer DNA on discarded clothing, backwards spatter from the shooting, or even DNA connecting Fox to other crimes he’s suspected of could all be crucial pieces of the puzzle,” explained Burrows.
Fox’s alleged involvement in two other gun-related crimes further strengthens the prosecution’s case. An attempted murder on April 9, 2024, where Fox is suspected of firing upon a vehicle carrying three juveniles and one adult, and a July 7, 2024, incident where Fox was found in possession of multiple firearms despite being prohibited, paint a disturbing picture of a suspect with a blatant disregard for the law.
Justice for Brianna: A Community Seeks Answers and Closure
As the investigation progresses and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office prepares to file charges, the community grapples with the senseless loss of a young life. Brianna’s murder serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present threat of gun violence and the importance of community vigilance.
“Brianna Stto was just 17 years old when she was tragically taken away from her family by a violent individual willing to commit such a reprehensible and brazen act of violence,” stated Chief Habish, expressing the collective grief and outrage felt by both law enforcement and the community.
The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. As the wheels of justice turn, the focus remains on securing a conviction that will ensure Brianna Stto receives the justice she deserves and that a dangerous individual is held accountable for their actions.
